Check into the luxury Hyatt Regency Cartagena hotel, unpack and relax from a day of traveling.
We will have a family meet and greet at the hotel at 8pm.
Day 2: Tour of Walled City | Getsemani + Art Tour | Barzuto Market (B, Sn) Wear bright summer colors
We start the day with a family buffet breakfast at 8:30am at Kokau Restaurant. The rest of the morning is at leisure.
At 10:45a, we will meet in the hotel lobby for an 11a departure to our tour in the Walled City. You’ll receive undivided attention from your private guide as you explore the UNESCO-listed Old Town Cartagena and learn about the culture and history of the city. Exploring on foot offers a more intimate glimpse into the Old Town.
After the walled city, we will tour Getsemani, observing its beautiful art. Embark on a private walking tour of Getsemani to see its colorful streets filled with pieces of street art and murals. Learn about how social and artistic projects transformed cultural and political changes in the country. See ideas and thoughts expressed through graffiti and murals on this street art tour of Getsemani. Walk to some of the most important places in the neighborhood, including Calle de la Media Luna, Calle San Juan, and Calle Larga, among others. Notice how Getsemani's bohemian spirit comes to life through these pieces of art. Meet locals sitting outside their houses as you stroll, learning from them how the area has been transformed into a cultural and artistic reference over the years.
We then eat lunch at a local restaurant. Lunch is not included. After lunch, we board the bus to go to Barzuto Market.
Bazurto Market is Cartagena’s largest and busiest market, and it’s a maze of colorful stalls, exotic foods and local artisans. This guided visit will take you to the heart of the market, where you’ll get the chance to meet the vendors, watch craftsmen at work, sample local delicacies and do local shopping.
We return to the hotel later in the afternoon. Enjoy the rest of the day at your leisure.

Day 3: Palenque Tour (B,L) Wear our group T-shirt
Buffet breakfast is available at Kokau restaurant. We meet in the hotel lobby at 8:45a for a 9am departure to Palenque. This is a tour to learn about a village that was established by Africans who escaped from slavery in the 1600’s, where there are many ancient African practices still alive including a language (Bantú, that was mixed with Spanish and portuguese), traditional music and dances, way of living, customs, traditional medicine and spiritual beliefs.
This village was declared by UNESCO a” world cultural heritage site” in 2005 and it is home of the first world boxing champion, Antonio Cervantes “Kid Pambele” and first Afro-Colombian movie actor “Evaristo Marquez”, who made a movie with Marlon Brando in 1968 called La quemada.
The tour starts with a walking tour around the community of Palenque with a professional guide, visit to a local home to learn about the family and their fruit-based candy business, interaction with the natives, visit to the school of music and arts for a performance of a traditional music group and traditional dances (monetary donation is suggested for the school), information on the history of the town and how the locals were able to escape from their captors being helped by their leader BENKOS BIOHO (who organized escapes just like the brave Harriet Tubman in the US) and how African men were supported by their own women who built maps and roads in their hair braiding to get oriented in the woods, and make it to the village where they would make it to freedom. We return to the hotel later that afternoon. Enjoy the remainder of the day and evening at your leisure.
Day 4: Rosario Islands Beach Day (B,L). Wear Red beachwear
Buffet breakfast is available at Kokau restaurant. Today, we meet in the hotel lobby at 8:45a for a 9am departure to Rosario Islands. Take part on this journey to the national/natural park called “The Rosario Islands” as well as a visit to the party beach called “Cholón”, where boats meet and start the party. After that, we go for our included lunch at the Island of Baru to stop at Playa blanca beach where we stay until we depart back to the city. Take a dip into the pristine waters of these beautiful coral reef national natural park where you can swim, take a walk around the island or do the snorkeling activity with a local instructor. This tour includes a bilingual escort, lunch, alcohol, (rum and coke, cups, ice and bottled water), beach chairs and shades, captain and a copilot. We return to the hotel later in the afternoon. Enjoy the remainder of the evening at your leisure.
Day 5: Leisure Day (B)
Enjoy the buffet breakfast at Kokau restaurant at your leisure. Then spend the day at the pool, spa, kid's club, or however you decide.
At 6p, we meet for a farewell dinner at the resort's restaurant.
Day 6: Check out of the hotel
Our time together has come to an end. We hope to see you on our next journey. International flight back to your home city.
Entry and Exit Requirements (Subject to change)
Are U.S. citizens permitted to enter? Yes As of May 1, 2022, visitors to Colombia ages 18 or older will need to provide proof of complete vaccination for entry or a negative COVID test (48 hours in advance of travel for an antigen test or 72 hours in advance of travel for a PCR test). Travelers should be prepared to show their original, physical vaccination card or digital certificate both at airline check-in and when passing through Colombian Immigration. The vaccination document must include the individual’s full name, date of vaccination, name of the vaccine administered, and the number of doses administered. A photo of one’s vaccination card may not be accepted. If you completed your vaccination scheme within 14 days before entry to Colombia you will also need to have an antigen test 48 hours prior to arrival or a PCR test 72 hours prior to arrival in Colombia.
